Welcome to the St Joseph’s Junior School web pages! I hope that by exploring these pages you will get a glimpse of what makes our school such a unique and special place, although nothing quite takes the place of a visit to the school itself.

St Joseph’s ethos, ‘a firm foundation for life,’ is a philosophy that every teacher in the Junior School embraces. We provide the foundations for each child to build on successfully as they move to the Senior School and on into the world for which we prepare them all as individuals.

Our students are happy, caring, well-mannered young people and here, at St Joseph's, they learn the importance of being global citizens, to treat their peers with respect, and to be proud members of the St Joseph’s family.

Our school boasts an array of amazing outdoor spaces, including an outdoor classroom where all junior School children spend at least one hour a week participating in Outdoor School, an experience that enriches our curriculum. Through these experiences, they learn life skills that they will carry into adulthood. Our highly polished Christmas productions, external and in-house sporting fixtures, and Inter-House competitions all enhance our children’s skill sets. We provide specialist teaching in French, Music, Science, Art and PE, led by experts from our teaching staff across both Junior and Senior sides of the school.

As the Head of the Junior School, I can honestly say that in my extensive teaching career, I have never worked in a more child-centered environment. Our dedicated teachers place the children at the heart of everything they do. This, combined with an open and effective relationship between parent, child, and teacher, forms the core of our teaching philosophy. Each child benefits from a unique educational experience, progresses at their own pace, and enjoys a truly broad and balanced curriculum.

As a lead science teacher, and a Winner of the Royal Society of Chemistry: Excellence in Primary Education Prize and as a Primary Science Teachers Trust fellow, I truly recognise the importance of discovering your children’s talents, embracing them, and letting them take them to new and exciting places. At St Joseph’s Junior School, we strive to do that for every child we teach.
