Welcome from the Head of Junior School
As the head of Juniors, I can honestly say that in my teaching career, which has not been a short one, I have never taught in a more child orientated environment.
The teachers at our school put the children in their care at the heart of everything they do. This, combined with an open and effective relationship between parent, child and teacher, is at the core of our teaching philosophy. This means that each child benefits from an education experience unique to them, each child makes progress at their own pace and each child participates in a truly broad and balanced curriculum.
The children in our school are happy, caring, well-mannered young people, who are learning how important it is be a world citizen, how to treat their peers and how to be a member of the St Joseph’s family.
The St Joseph's school site has its own amazing outdoor space and classroom and here the children spend at least one hour a week participating in Outdoor School, which further enriches our curriculum. Through children’s experiences, they learn the life skills that they then utilise as adults. Experiences such as our highly polished Christmas productions, external and in-house sporting fixtures, external and interhouse competitions all combine to enhance our children’s skill sets. We provide specialist teaching in French, Music, Science, and PE led by experts drawn from our teaching staff.
St Joseph’s ethos ‘a firm foundation for life’ is a philosophy that every teacher in the Junior School subscribes to. We, as the Junior school, provide the foundations for each child so these can be built on successfully when the children move to the Senior School.
As a lead science teacher, effective STEM educator and Primary Science Teachers Trust fellow, I truly recognise the importance of finding your children’s talent, embracing it and letting it take them to places new and exciting. Here at St Joseph’s Junior School we strive to do that for every one of the children we teach.
And finally, some comments from the people who know St Josephs the best….
“At St Josephs I like making new friends (Bodieve- Year 1)”
“I like being in St joseph's school because the lessons are fun. (Jake – Year 5)”
“I love being at St Jo’s because the teachers are great and I love being with my friends and there is no other school like it. (Lowenna – Year 6)”
I look forward to meeting you in person and showing you around our fabulous school.
